BA wants to reach accord with agents

I was very pleased, and heartened, to read the positive comments made by the trade about our new Interim Agency Bonus arrangements (Travel Weekly August 16).

The interim scheme will help safeguard agents’ earnings from sales of British Airways tickets and provides us with more time in which to fully explore a solution for the longer term beyond April 2000.

I would like to take this opportunity to clear up any misunderstandings surrounding our standard rate of commission which has not been raised to 10%. Standard commission remains unchanged at 7%. The new interim bonus payments are quite separate to basic commission – and are very much conditional on agents undertaking training in our products.

We hope for support from our colleagues in the trade for the interim arrangements and also support to design a long term solution which will benefit both BA and our partners.
