Snow and ice continued to affect flights from airports across the UK today.
Robin Hood airport near Doncaster and East Midlands airport were shut this morning while flights were suspended at Leeds/Bradford and Manchester airports.
Leeds/Bradford was due to re-open at 12.30 and East Midlands at 2pm.
About 12 departures and nine inbound flights were affected at Birmingham airport.
London City airport re-opened at 7.30am after ice was removed from the runway.
Flights were operating as normal from Gatwick but were subject to some delays.
EasyJet issued a winter weather warning of disruption to flights to Lyon, Toulouse, Milan, Brussels, Amsterdam, Krakow, Geneva, Basel and Zurich.
Heathrow’s capacity was reduced by 10% with about 130 fewer flights today due to poor visibility.
A Heathrow spokesperson said: “The schedule for today has been reduced by 10% in order to cope with the low visibility conditions expected from 4pm. Low visibility means that, for safety reasons, there needs to be a bigger gap between aircraft. Because Heathrow runs at almost 100% capacity there is no slack in the system and flights unfortunately have to be cancelled. Further cancellations are inevitable given the adverse weather conditions at other airports around Europe.
“We ask that all passengers please check the status of their flight with their airline before they leave for the airport. We have over 200 additional customer services staff at Heathrow today to assist passengers as they come through the airport.”
