About your new Travel Weekly website
By Tom Irwin, web editor of Travel Weekly Group
Welcome to our new-look travelweekly.co.uk, or should I say the first stage of it.
It’s been two-and-a-half years since we last gave the site a refresh, so we thought it was time not only to spruce up the design, but also to look at how you were using the old site and fine-tune the experience to give you what you wanted.
The most striking finding, perhaps unsurprisingly, was that the vast majority of our traffic was driven by our news coverage. That came through the home page and also from our regular Travel Weekly Business:am email briefings and other email alerts and social media updates throughout the week.
With that in mind, you’ll see that the home page of the refreshed site has more news content than before, and we’ve also worked to refine our sector-specific news channels – such as travel agents, tour operators, air or cruise – to make it easier to find news that is particularly relevant to you.
On the home page, you can also check out the most read or discussed stories, find out how to follow the Travel Weekly team on social media and read the latest opinion and comment features.
The second thing we discovered after sounding out users was that the wealth of resources on the site wasn’t always immediately obvious to visitors.
To rectify that, we’ve created a standalone area for travel agents where you can find content including competitions, destination features, photos, chat, advice and training all in one place, and you can check that out and bookmark it here.
Finally in this first stage of the redesign, we’ve tidied up our events page, which we hope will be a valuable resource for anyone looking to find out what’s coming up in the travel industry calendar.
We hope you like the changes and find the site is easier on the eye and easier to find your way around.
As this is the first stage of the new design, there will be plenty more changes and content coming online in the coming months.
And as always, we’d like to hear your opinions as we want to ensure your travelweekly.co.uk gives you everything you need. If you’ve got any feedback, please email me on tom.irwin@travelweekly.co.uk.
