n BA replaces dc10son Nassau services



British Airways is replacing the DC10s on itsthrice-weeklyGatwick-Nassau withBoeing 777-200s following an increase in demand for the destination. Fares for a seven-night stay lead in at £595. A 10-night Apex fare start at £545. Flights depart from Gatwick on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, returningMondays, Wednesdays and Sundays.



n caledonian to serve grand bahama for 2000



Caledonian Airways is to start flights from Gatwick to the FreeportInternational Airport on Grand Bahama from May 1 2000. The route will beoperated by DC10s and will be sold through theairline’s seat-only division, Golden Lion Travel.Return fares start at £322 rising to £575 in peakseason. Style Holidaysand Sunworld are among the tour operators expected to use the new service.



n out islands see ferry improvements



Connections between the Out Islands have been improved following the start of new ferry services in July. A daily fast-ferry service now runs from Nassau to Harbour Island, taking 1hr 40mins and to North Eleuthera, 1hr 10mins. A twice-weekly fast ferry also runs from Nassau toGovernor’s Harbour. It has space for 177 passengers. Around trip costs £54 for adults and £30 forchildren.



n BTO turns focus on high-speed promotions



The Bahamas Tourist Office is promoting a new high-speed ferry – ‘The Cat’ – which operates between Freeport on Grand Bahama and Miami three times a week. A round-trip fare costs £60.
