Greek CAA staff join general strike

Greek civil aviation authority personnel are joining the country’s first general strike of the year in protest against austerity cuts.

Industrial action was taking place today between 6am and 10am and between 5pm and 9pm local time.

EasyJet told passengers due to travel to and from Greece today: “We expect our flights to be unaffected, but would advise that you check the status of your flight.”

The 24-hour general strike is disrupting transport, closing schools and state-run offices and leaving hospitals working with emergency staff.

The action has been called by Greece’s two biggest unions, representing half the four million-strong workforce.
