CO-OP Travelcare has acquired the travel arm of Ipswich and Norwich Co-operative Society for an undisclosed sum.
The two organisations are both part of the UK Co-operative movement. Ipswich and Norwich’s travel business consists of seven retail shops – two in Ipswich and the remaining in Norwich, Cromer, Great Yarmouth, Stowmarket and Felixstowe. The stores employ 24 people, all of whom Co-op Travelcare said it would retain.
The addition of the shops brings Co-op Travelcare’s total number of branches to 271.
Co-op Travelcare group general manager Yvonne Rankin said: “This will boost our presence in an area of the country where we are not particularly well represented and strengthen our branch network.”
The organisation says it is now considering acquisitions in other areas where it has little presence and is looking at Scotland and Wales.
