Nominations open for Abta chairman role

Nominations are open for the role of Abta chairman after the association held its annual general meeting today.

Lord Fowler and Andy Cooper, who is Thomas Cook’s director of government and external affairs, have stepped down from their roles as non-executive directors. Both have served their two year term on the board.

Doreen Mackenzie, director of Knock Travel, and Sunvil Holidays managing director Noel Josephides were reappointed following elections in March.

Abta said a range of resolutions were passed aimed at simplifying its membership processes. It has increased the flexibility of membership of the regional committees and reduced the allowance paid to the Abta chairman.

Candidates for the chairman role must be proposed and seconded by current Abta board members by May 8.  Current chairman John McEwan will continue until a new chairman is selected. If there is more than one candidate, there will be a general member balllot.
