Thomas Cook has split its car-rental business between Avis and Alamo after reviewing its operations.
The move has led the multiple to drop Holiday Autos, which previously shared the worldwide business with Avis.
A spokeswoman for the multiple said it decided to secure one supplier for North America and one for the rest of the world from August and Alamo and Avis respectively offered the best deals.
Thomas Cook managing director retail Andrew Windsor said: “This decision bears no reflection on Holiday Autos’ performance.”
Holiday Autos chairman and chief executive Clive Jacobs said he was disappointed by the decision. “Since we started working with Thomas Cook we have taken a 80% share of their car-rental business in addition to increasing their overall car-rental business by 30% in both 1998 and 1999.”
Meanwhile, Avis has also secured the contract for JMCand Style Holidays for their non-North America business from next month. Alamo takes over from Dollar for JMC from November next year and for Style from November 2002.
