Unrest was continuing this morning in Taksim Sqaure in Istanbul after a day of violent clashes between police using tear gas and thousands of anti-government protestors.
Bulldozers moved in at dawn to clear away debris, barricades and makeshift shelters, according to news reports.
But many demonstrators regrouped in nearby Gezi Park, where protests continued into this morning.
Protests began 13 days ago over the redevelopment of Gezi Park and have spread to cities across Turkey.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office said: “Further demonstrations remain possible in cities across Turkey. Police have used tear gas and water cannon to disperse protestors from Taksim Square and the surrounding area, including Istiklal Street, in Istanbul.
“We advise British nationals to avoid all demonstrations and to follow the advice of the police or local authorities.”
