Plea for more donations for Reuben’s Retreat bike ride

Cyclists taking part in a 90-mile midsummer night bike ride in aid of Reuben’s Retreat have launched a final push for donations.

There are 40 cyclists joining the ride, which starts at midnight on June 21 in Manchester and finishes in Llandudno, Wales. It is being sponsored by Definitely Dubai, the official tourism portal for Dubai.

Cyclists, including well-known industry figures, have put in hours of training and in some cases have purchased bikes in order to take part in the challenge.

Garstang Travel director Nicole Eaves, who recently cycled 54 miles as part of her training, said: “Everyone has been working so hard and putting in hours of training. It will be a matter of motivating people and helping to keep them going, especially in the early hours of the morning.

“It’s not too late to donate so we are urging anyone who can to contribute.”

The group wants to rais more than £6,500 for Reuben’s Retreat to help fund a family respite centre. The charity was set up following the death of Reuben Graham in August last year from a rare brain tumour. His parents Nicola and Graham are well-known in the travel industry.

Among those taking part are Barbara Kolosinska from C&M Recruitment; John Drogan from Golden Eagle Luxury Trains; Peter Whitte, of Traveltec, John Hardcastle from ITC and Jonathan Whiteley from 1st Class Holidays.
