Sun Princess begins $30 million transformation in drydock

Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess is getting a $30 million transformation during a two-week makeover of the ship.

The vessel will receive a new atrium with an International Cafe, a new sushi and seafood venue, an updated Horizon Court buffet and a refreshed Lotus Spa.

The drydock process can be followed while the ship is at the Sembawang shipyard in Singapore, with regular photo updates to be put online each day until August 20.

The online journal will feature the transformation of the ship with new interior furnishings and finishings and fresh hull paint.

Paul Ludlow, director Princess Cruises UK, said, “We know from past projects that our passengers are fascinated by the drydock process.

“Once again we are inviting people to visit princess.com to watch the exciting transformation unfold.”

Other new additions include a space designed especially for Sterling Steakhouse and an alfresco barbecue on the ship’s top deck.

On completion, Sun Princess will set sail on a season of Asia and Australia before beginning a second season of Japan-based cruising in April.
