New river cruise line aims to target younger market

A new river cruise company is to launch this weekend with plans to target a younger demographic.

Scenic Tours is introducing Emerald Waterways which will sail in Europe next year with two new 182-passenger ships.

The line said it was likely to attract a younger audience than traditional river cruises.

Emerald Star and Emerald Sky will feature heated swimming pools with retractable roofs, bars and ice cream stations.

The ships will also offer Emerald Panorama Balcony suites, with floor to ceiling windows which can roll down at the touch of a button.

The owner’s one-bedroom suites will offer a separate bedroom and lounge; complimentary mini-bar, Nespresso machine and use of an iPad.

All transfers, tips, meals and drinks will be included in the price of the cruise, as well as a number of shore excursions.

In addition the vessels will have two restaurants, an onboard hairdresser, massage therapy room and a fitness area. The pool area also transforms into a movie theatre in the evening.

Initial itineraries at the line will include eight-day trips between Nuremberg, Germany and Budapest, Hungary and 12-day Magical Rhine & Moselle trips between Switzerland’s Basel and the canal city of Amsterdam.

The river cruise company is to be direct sell only in the UK.
