Norwegian Cruise Line alters Getaway’s first sailings

Norwegian Getaways inaugural sailing has been cancelled because the vessel has been chartered by a private company.

Getaway, which is currently being completed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, will no longer sail from Rotterdam to Miami on January 16 as expected.

Instead the ship will embark on a ten-day sailing from Southampton to New York, arriving in the city days before it is due to be chartered.

Reports suggest that the ship has been chartered by a private company providing accommodation for next year’s Super Bowl, which takes place at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium – home of the New York Giants and the New York Jets – on February 2.

Norwegian said: “Norwegian Getaway has been charted from January 29, 2014, to February 5, 2014 in New York City.

“As a result, the 11-day transatlantic that was scheduled to depart on January 16, 2014 from Rotterdam to Miami is now a ten-day transatlantic from Southampton to New York City.

“In addition, the first Eastern Caribbean cruise from Miami on February 1, 2014, has been cancelled.

“The first Eastern Caribbean sailing from Miami will now depart on February 8, 2014.”
