Mayor of Liverpool speaks of desire for more berths at cruise terminal

The Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, spoke of his desire to have more berths at the city cruise terminal as he helped to open this year’s Columbus Day.

Anderson told delegates gathered at Clia’s annual event that he was proud of Liverpool’s maritime history and was keen to develop it even further.

Currently the city has two berths which can be used for both turnaround and transit calls.

Anderson said: “You can place a cruise ship right at the heart of our city. I want more cruise berths. We have two but I want more.”

He said he wanted to have so much interest in the city that cruise liners were queuing and waiting to come in.

Many of the days speakers referenced Liverpool’s lengthy maritime history which spans across 800 years.
