The Network founder to relinquish Menzies role to focus on new venture

Jane Dyson, managing director of the Menzies Marketing Services business, is to step down from the board next year and become a non-executive director.

The move will allow Dyson, who joined Menzies Distribution after it acquired her company, travel industry field marketing company The Network, in 2008, time to focus on her new business venture, an online consumer website for the cosmetic industry.

Dyson said she had loved her five-and-a-half years of “corporate life” but was looking forward to getting back to running her own business again, which she had done for 18 years before selling The Network.

She described her new business, which is currently in beta testing and due to launch at the end of March, as a “TripAdvisor’ for the cosmetic industry”.

“If you Google ‘boob-job’ currently, all you get is various surgeons who offer the operation, NHS options or a Wikipedia listing. There are no forums or places for people to go to talk about procedures or reviews.”

She said she was delighted to have been invited to remain as a non-exec of Menzies. “I get the best of both worlds.

“I get to remain in a consultancy role, but also the opportunity to run my own business again. It’s extremely exciting.

Menzies said Dyson had been a visible and influential member of the Menzies Distribution Board since 2010.

“It’s always a blow to lose someone of Jane’s talent and experience, but I’m delighted to say that we’ve persuaded her to continue her work with Menzies in a consultancy role.

“In her new capacity, Jane will help us develop, grow and deliver parts of our on-going diversification programme,” said managing director David McIntosh.

“The Menzies Marketing Services businesses will now be re-aligned to fit into our wider spectrum of diversifications, including our Orbital businesses.

“The details of this change are still being finalised and will be announced to the business early in 2014, when the board will set its strategy and supporting action plans for the next three years.”
