Four dead in Philippines airport shooting

Four people are reported to have been killed in a shooting at Manila’s international airport.

The shooting took place around 11.20am in Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino international airport, the official Philippines News Agency reported.

The dead include Ukol Talumpa, the mayor of a town in the southern Philippines, and his wife, the news agency reported.

CNN affiliate ABS-CBN quoted Jose Angel Honrado, general manager of Manila International Airport Authority, as saying that Talumpa and several other people were shot at by unidentified gunmen at the loading bay area of Terminal 3, causing panic among people nearby.

PNA reported that Talumpa, the mayor of Labangan, had previously survived an assassination attempt in Manila in November 2010 and a grenade attack in September 2012 in Zamboanga del Sur.

Labangan is located in Zamboanga del Sur, on the southern island of Mindanao.
