Cross-Channel competition ruling expected today

A ruling is expected today from the Competition Commission over Eurotunnel establishing cross-Channel ferry operation MyFerryLink.

The competition authority is due to say whether it will rethink its ruling that the Channel Tunnel operator broke rules when starting to run former SeaFrance ferries from Dover in 2012.

Eurotunnel disputed the ruling and went to the Competition Appeals Tribunal which said the Competition Commission might not have the power to make the judgment at all.

A Commission spokeswoman told the Mail on Sunday that it had until today (Monday) to reconsider the case following the Tribunal’s ruling and if it has jurisdiction to review the issue.

If it decides it does not, the next step could be for rival ferry companies, P&O Ferries and DFDS, to go to the Court of Appeal.
