The number of trips abroad taken by UK residents in November rose by 4% year on year to 3.49 million, latest official figures show.
The total for the year to November was up by 2% to almost 54.8 million, according to the Office for National Statistics. Expenditure was up by 4% to £32.1 billion.
The number of inbound visits to the UK fell by 2% in November to 2.4 million.
However, the total for the year to November was 5% up at 30.2 million with earnings growing by 12% to £19.3 billion.
Mike Saul (pictured), head of hospitality and leisure at Barclays said: “The UK continues to be an attractive destination for tourists as visitor numbers rise yet again year on year. This underlines the strength of the UK brand, which should see this upward trend continue as we start the new year.
“Similarly, as confidence returns to the UK, holidaymakers are finding more reasons for discretionary spend with the short break holiday a favoured choice.
“Operators in the sector are also optimistic for the future, as increasing spend is being seen on ski holidays.”
