Bolivia flooding prompts state of emergency

A state of emergency has been declared in some regions of Bolivia due to flooding which has killed at least 29 people.

More than 35,000 families have been affected by the rains and the flooding.

The worst affected province is Beni, in northeastern Bolivia, where 10 people have died, followed by La Paz in the northwest and central Cochabamba, the BBC reported.

Many areas have been affected by flooding and landslides as a result of heavy rain throughout the country, according to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

In an updated travel advisory, the FCO said: “The northern and eastern regions of the country have been severely affected.

“Be aware that transport may be disrupted due to poor road conditions in certain areas, and some airports may be closed. Please seek local advice before travelling to affected areas.”
