FEWER than 1% of travel policies are sold over the Internet, according to market research specialist NOP.
Financial division managing director Nick Watkins said this compares to 46% bought face to face and 37% over the phone. The rest is taken out by post.
“We know that people are shopping on-line but they are buying books and CDs. They are not using it to book travel insurance,” he said. “That suggests a need to make a better link between holiday sites and travel insurance.”
Watkins said the NOP survey of 80,000 people also showed that agents dominate the single trip market with 73% of sales. However, insurance companies and brokers sell 47% of annual policies against 19% sold by agents.
