German airports warn of strike disruption

Major airports across Germany face major disruption tomorrow (Thursday) due to strike action.

Germany’s main union Ver.di announced that Frankurt, Munich, Cologne-Bonn, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Hannover and Stuttgart airports would be hit by the industrial action.

Airport workers are involved in a dispute over pay, with negotiations not due to resume before next week.

The action at Frankfurt, Germany’s largest airport, is set to last from 3.30am until 2.30pm, involving staff in ground and freight handling, as well as maintenance, administration and security.

The airport warned passengers that they should expect “major disruptions and flight cancellations”.

Lufthansa expects significant disruption and said it would announce potential flight cancellations today, as well as possible alternative travel arrangements.
