Wimbledon champion Andy Murray today (Tuesday) opens a luxury hotel in Scotland.
The tennis star bought Cromlix House, near his home town of Dunblane, last year.
The former country house has been converted into a 15-room, five-star hotel, which includes a restaurant overseen by French chef Albert Roux, owner of the Michelin-starred London restaurant La Gavroche.
Cromlix had previously operated as a private house and then a five-star country house hotel before closing in 2012.
Murray said the hotel venture was aimed at attracting new visitors to the area, creating jobs and supporting other local businesses. The development has created up to 40 jobs in the area.
The hotel is managed on behalf of Murray by Inverlochy Castle Management International (ICMI), which already manages eight other independent properties in Scotland, including Inverlochy Castle near Fort William, Greywalls Hotel in Gullane and The Atholl in Edinburgh.
Murray said: “By re-establishing Cromlix as a leading luxury hotel at the heart of the Dunblane community we will be able to attract new visitors to the area, create a number of new jobs and focus on supporting other local businesses. I’m pleased to be able to give something back to the community I grew up in.”
VisitScotland has already included the hotel in a James Bond-themed guided tour of the country being offered to Russian tour operators, as it features rooms named after 007 actor Sean Connery and series creator Ian Fleming, the BBC reported.
