Germanwings outlines impact of pilots’ strike

Lufthansa offshoot Germanwings today outlined the “significant impact” a three-day strike by pilots will have on the carrier.

The airline is cancelling almost 700 out of 1,333 flights scheduled during the strike period between midnight tonight (Wednesday) and 11.59pm on Friday.

Around 600 flights are expected to operate, according to Germanwings’ current planning status.

The airline said: “All passengers affected by the strikes can rebook or cancel their flights free-of-charge on germanwings.com/en/.

“In light of the fact the call centre is currently experiencing a huge volume of calls, changes and cancellations can also be made after the original departure date, up to April 11.”

An information hotline has been made available for passengers, which is accessible from the UK on 0906 294 1918.

“An increased number of staff will be available at airports so that passengers will be looked after and will always be able to find a contact person,” the airline said.

“Germanwings regrets any inconvenience caused to passengers as a result of the strike action and are striving to limit the impact as much as possible.”

Lufthansa has already announced the cancellation of 3,800 flights affecting more than 425,000 passengers over the three days of the walkout by pilots in a dispute over pay and conditions.
