Boris Johnson is looking to revive his plans for a new airport hub by turning to politicians from Denver, Colorado, for help.
The Mayor of London is set to meet with the Mayor of Denver about the relocation of Colorado’s international airport 20 years ago.
Denver officials are also expected to meet with the Davies Commission, as part of its review into Britain’s airport capacity.
Johnson and his aviation policy team will focus on the relocation strategy and he believes the capital can learn from this experience and relocate Heathrow, according to The Telegraph.
“West London is bursting at the seams and there is a reason that a third runway has not been built at Heathrow win the last 50 years, which is that it would be entirely the wrong place,” Johnson said.
“We are world leaders in aviation and people are always going to want to fly to this city. But the hub airport we have got is in the wrong place. So we should move Heathrow; other cities like Denver have done it and there is no reason why we should not do it too.”
Michael Hancock, the Mayor of Denver, and Kim Day, chief executive of Denver International Airport, are expected to explain the successful relocation of the airport to outside the city.
The US airport generates around $26 billion a year for the local economy and employs more than 32,000 people.
