A curfew at eight more tourist areas in Thailand is expected to be lifted next week.

The ministry of tourism and sports has announced plans to propose that military leaders under the National Council for Peace and Order lift the curfew in resort areas including Krabi, Phang Nga, Trang, Hat Yai, Ko Chang, Cha-am, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai.

This follows the lifting of the night-time curfew in the tourist destinations of Ko Samui, Pattaya and Phuket.

The curfew was imposed nationwide on May 22 following the military coup in Thailand to “ensure the safety of everyone during the current political transition period,” according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The timing of the daily curfew was reduced from seven hours to four hours – midnight until 4 am – last Tuesday.

TAT said all tourism-related businesses and services are operating as normal in tourist destinations such as Hua Hin, Khao Lak (Phang-nga) and Krabi,

“There is hardly any military presence in these major tourist destinations,” TAT said.
