Roboscreens to ‘take entertainment on Royal Caribbean ship to new level’

Royal Caribbean International claims it will take “entertainment to a whole new level” with new technology on board its latest ship Quantum of the Seas.

Launching later this year, Quantum’s entertainment offering will benefit from Roboscreens that twist and turn as a unit or individually, and Vistarama, digital shows projected onto floor-to-ceiling windows.

The line said the innovation had been created with the new-to-cruise market in mind.

New venue Two70° will have 18 projectors to create the Vistarama image, which is 100ft wide and more than 20ft high, and six Roboscreens. Both will be integrated with live performers, music and special effects.

Nick Weir, vice-president for entertainment, said: “There is an incredible team of risk-takers and dreamers here at Royal Caribbean.

“We’ve always brought the best of land to sea, but in Two70° we are creating something that has never been done anywhere in the world.”

The new technology will be used for productions and virtual concerts from “premier musicians, groups and bands”.

The ship’s new Music Hall venue will host bands, musicians, DJs, theme night parties and an adult-only show called Wink.

The 1,300-seat Royal Theater will show Mamma Mia! and a second show called Sonic Odyssey, which features a live orchestra with singers, dancers, aerialists and gymnasts.

Stuart Leven, managing director UK and Ireland, said the innovation was a “Quantum step forward in entertainment anywhere in the world, let alone at sea”.
