Air Canada operated its first flight from Toronto into Heathrow’s new multi-million pound Terminal 2 today,
A Boeing 777-300ER with 290 passengers and 11 on board touch down at 7.04 am.
The flight was the first of the airline’s 11 scheduled arrivals and 11 departures using Terminal 2 throughout the day.
Air Canada and joint venture partner United Airlines are the first carriers operating at Terminal 2. The remaining 21 Star Alliance members serving Heathrow will progressively move to the new terminal oer the next six months.
The airline also opened today its new 700-square metre Maple Leaf Lounge in Terminal 2, adjacent to departing aircraft stands and gates.
Air Canada’s summer transatlantic schedule includes up to 77 non-stop flights a week to eight Canadian cities – Toronto, Montréal, Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and St. John’s.
UK, Ireland and northern Europe general manager Robert Atkinson said: “The new terminal will enhance our customers’ travel experience with improved services and facilities as well as our own Maple Leaf Lounge showcasing world-class Canadian products.
“Air Canada offers more flights from the UK to Canada than any other airline and London Heathrow is our most important international airport.
“As all of our Star Alliance partners gradually move into the new terminal over the coming weeks and months, Air Canada customers will benefit from improved connecting times at Heathrow.”
Air Canada handled more than 1.4 million passengers at Heathrow last year.
