The opportunities for travel firms of an ageing population will be debated at this year’s Abta Travel Convention in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
The latest main stage speaker to be confirmed for the event is Sarah Harper, Oxford University Professor and Director of the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing.
She will discuss the business impact and opportunities afforded by an ageing population and rapidly changing demographics.
Harper joins Justin Urquhart-Stewart and James Wallman, as main stage speakers already confirmed for the opening day of the annual overseas convention.
Mark Tanzer, Abta chief executive, said: “Professor Sarah Harper completes an impressive line-up of speakers from the Our World section of the business programme who will highlight some key trends that will provide the context for the convention sessions focusing on our industry, looking at what’s happening on the geo-political and economic front, changes in demographics and how this will impact UK consumers.
“I look forward to meeting delegates in Ljubljana, a beautiful, vibrant and historic city which has been tipped by both Lonely Planet and the Scotsman as a must-visit destination in 2014.”
Abta delegates will have an opportunity to join a number of exclusive excursions to see some of the highlights of Slovenia and Ljubljana.
Exclusively for Convention delegates, the Slovenia Tourist Board is hosting complimentary walking tours of the City and excursions to nearby Lake Bled and the famous Postojna Cave, Slovenia’s number one tourist attraction.
Both Lonely Planet and the Scotsman have tippped Ljubljana as a must visit destination in 2014.
Lonely Planet describes it as “one of Europe’s greenest and most liveable cities, boasting a friendly café culture by day and vibrant nightlife after the sun sets.”
The Scotsman described Ljubljana as the “true Paris of Eastern Europe, with an endless array of charming, bustling cafes, bistros and wine bars, intricately designed bridges and exuberant art nouveau architecture.”
