Fred Olsen could add more murder mystery cruises

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines could add more murder mystery cruises if its first offering sells well.

The line’s Poison, Murder & Mystery cruise on Boudicca (pictured) next summer went on sale last week and Nathan Philpot, sales and marketing director, believes the themed sailing will capture customers’ imagination.

“This is something very different and unique and we hope agents get behind it,” he said.

The idea for the cruise came from Fred Olsen Senior, chairman of the Fred Olsen group, and the Duchess of Northumberland.

Olsen has a poison garden in Guimar, Tenerife, and was keen to link a cruise with the Duchess’s Poison Gardens at Alnwick Castle, which starred in the Harry Potter films.

Philpot said: “Fred Olsen Senior is keen to do more of these cruises, so if it proves popular it is definitely something we will look at. It has a slightly higher price point at £2,499 but it isn’t a product that needs to be discounted. We believe it’s something worth paying for and that agents should support because it offers good earnings.”

The 16-night cruise to Portugal and the Canary Islands will depart from Rosyth on July 10, 2015.
