Norwegian sees record carryings in July

Scandinavian low-cost carrier Norwegian saw passenger carryings rise by 17% to almost 2.5 million in July.

This was the highest number of passengers the airline has carried in a single month and came as the airline started flights to the US from Gatwick.

The overall load factor was 88.2%, a rise of 2.3 percentage points.

Chief executive Bjørn Kjos said: “We’re very pleased that the passenger growth continues. Even with considerable capacity increase, we manage to fill almost nine out of ten seats.

“Particularly in light of the exceptionally warm weather in Scandinavia in July, the traffic figures are solid.

“We’re also pleased that an increasing number of customers outside of Scandinavia choose to fly with Norwegian.”

Aer Lingus also saw July passenger carryings rise by 6.1% to 1.2 million.

Short-haul numbers were up by 2.1% over the dame month last year to 928,000 while regional services grew by 22.4% to 142,000.

Long-haul numbers also grew by 22.4% to 142,000.

The overall passenger load factor slipped by a single percentage point to 84.9%.
