British travellers to Hawaii should heed advice from local authorities as twin hurricanes head towards the Pacific island US state.
Hurricane Iselle is expected to make landfall on Thursday as a tropical storm, with Tropical Storm Julio following over the weekend.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued a revised travel advisory saying: “You should monitor the progress of approaching storms in the Pacific and follow instructions issued by the local Hawaiian authorities.”
Hawaiians are reported to be stocking up on supplies as twin hurricanes threaten heavy winds and flash flooding.
Hurricane Iselle was 925 miles east of Honolulu yesterday morning carrying winds of up to 75 mph.
Hurricane Julio could arrive in Hawaii two days later.
The island chain’s Big Island was expected to see Iselle first.
The state’s department of emergency management has asked residents to prepare a seven-day emergency kit, including non-perishable food and water.
Hawaii’s remoteness from the mainland makes it hard to get emergency supplies to the state, the BBC reported.
The last cyclone to hit Hawaii, Hurricane Iniki in 1992, killed six and caused £1.4 billion in damage.
