The German National Tourist Office is predicting that around 40m visitors will visit this year’s Expo 2000 in Hanover between June 1 and October 31.
The event is expected to further boost the country’s UK and Irelandtourist numbers which rose by 4.8% to around 3.4m last year.
Eight selected travel agents have been contracted to sell Expo tickets in the UK.
Expo 2000 will be one of a number of focuses for the Germany Travel Show in Islington which is being held on June 13.
Some 500 agents and operators are expected to attend. Meanwhile, the GNTO is promoting holidays to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach’s death this year.
Hamburg International Organ Festival is already in progress and runs until April 25 while a Bach weekend in Dresden is being held between July 8 and 9.
Meanwhile, the Internet is playing a key role in promoting Germany with the GNTO Web site receiving 1.5m visitors since January 16, each spending an average of eight minutes each at the site.
