n Government probe into boat death
A Government inquiry has been launched into the death of a man who was allegedly knocked off a boat by a wave from a passing Stena Line fast ferry.The Marine AccidentInvestigation Branch islooking at whether Stena Discovery, which operates the route between Harwich and the Hook of Holland, played a part in theincident.
n Silverseas reduces prices for agents
Luxury cruiseline Silversea Cruises is offering travel agents up to 60% off brochure prices on selected sailings until this October. Cruise-only fares start at £1,355 per person for a cabin with a balcony on a seven-day voyage between Palm Beach in Florida and Bridgetown in Barbados. The company previously offered late-availability reductions only to the 250 agents in its Circle of Excellence scheme.
n Radisson cancels first sailings
Radisson Seven Seas Cruises has cancelled the first two sailings of its new ship Seven Seas Navigator following delays in fitting out the vessel. The490-passenger all-suite ship will now enter service on September 7 with an11-day Mediterranean cruise out of Nice. The 20 UK passengers on thesailings will be offered full refunds and a 50% reduction off a Radisson Seven Seas cruise in 2000. Travel agents’ commissions will be protected.
n Salmon leaps to Avis marketing post
AvisEurope has appointed Clare Salmon group director of marketing. Salmon replaces Roberto Lucchini who has been promoted to country manager for Italy. She joins Avis in August from insurers Prudential where she worked for eight years in a number of senior marketing and salesdevelopment positions.
