Sir Michael takes flight with sporting gesture

HASBritish Midland chairman Sir Michael Bishop got his eyes on a lucrative sideline?

The millionaire aviation knight unveiled a £15m investment in a new British Midland training centre last week.

However, just before it was officially unveiled, Sir Michael dropped a clue as to where his future plans may lie.

Standing in the aircraft hangar-like interior of the Heathrow centre, he glanced around the building and said: “If ever the airline industry goes bad, we could always turn this into a health and fitness club.”

Sir Michael had obviously thought about the details at length, as he went on to say: “We could make some great squash courts here – if we moved the flight simulators out.”

As ever the aviation chief showed himself to be thinking ahead.

But, British Midland staff beware if you are suddenly called into the building early one morning with instructions to be wearing sports gear.
