A Dutch student accommodation operator backed by US private equity is targeting Brighton, Edinburgh and London after securing €150 million (£118m).
The Student Hotel, run by Charlie MacGregor (pictured) and backed by The Carlyle Group, will announce today that Perella Weinberg Real Estate will fund its future developments, the Times reported.
The company, which has hotels in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Liège, and The Hague with 1,650 rooms, plans to develop properties in key British cities as well as Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Frankfurt and Dublin.
First up will be a €60 million conversion of Amsterdam’s Trouw building and Parool tower into a 574-room Student Hotel with gym.
McGregor said: “It used to be that because the accommodation was for students, nobody cared what it was like. Our model is different, and treats students as customers.”
