Thomson is to offer packages to Iceland for the first time next winter.
The six week programme, which runs from January to March 2016, will include excursions to search for the Northern Lights and a Golden Circle tour. It will feature in a standalone brochure, due out before Christmas.
The operator will offer three and four night packages, including the two excursions, with weekly flights out of Gatwick and Manchester.
The Northern Lights tour is offered as a repeat excursion if holidaymakers do not see the natural light phenomenon the first time. For fans of the TV series Game of Thrones, there is also the chance to see the Ice Wall first-hand and trace Jon Snow, Ygritte and the Free Folk’s journey to the lands ‘Beyond The Wall’. The tour also includes the filming locations of the ‘Seven Kingdoms’.
The Golden Circle tour takes clients from Reykjavik into central Iceland and includes stops at beauty spots such as the Geysir hot springs, Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir National Park.
As well as the two included excursions, there will be the chance to go glacier hiking, climbing or take a snowmobile ride.
Accommodation is offered at a variety of 3T and 4T accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis. Prices start from £499 for a three night stay at the Hotel Klettur in Reykavik.
Product director Mark Hall said the new packages would compliment the existing Lapland programme, with the chance to see Iceland’s dramatic landscapes as well as the Northern Lights.
“The Northern Lights are high on many people’s travel wish list and our Iceland breaks will give customers the opportunity to see them,” he added.
