Cranberries singer arrested after alleged assault on flight

The lead singer of rock band The Cranberries has been arrested following an alleged assault on a flight from the US to Ireland.

Dolores O’Riordan was detained after an air hostess was reportedly attacked on an Aer Lingus flight from New York to Shannon.

Irish police were called to meet the aircraft and during the course of the arrest, a policeman was also assaulted, the BBC reported.

The cabin crew member was taken to hospital but the officer was not seriously hurt.

The flight, from New York JFK, landed at Shannon at about 05:30am.

A police spokesman said a woman in her early 40s was being questioned at Shannon police station.
