Royal Caribbean ship to make Pullmantur switch

One of Royal Caribbean International’s oldest ships is to be transferred to Spanish sister line Pullmantur Cruises.

Majesty of the Seas will make its final sailing for Royal Caribbean with a three-night sailing from Florida on April 29, 2016.

The ship will then enter dry dock to be tailored to fit Pullmantur’s brand standards and offerings.

The move will increase the Spanish brand’s capacity by more than 20%.

The 2,350-passemnger Majesty of the Seas entered service in 1992 and has been operating short cruises targeting first-time passengers from Miami.

Following the move, all three Sovereign-class ships – Sovereign, Monarch, and Majesty – will be operated by Pullmantur Cruises.

Royal Caribbean Cruises chairman and chief executive Richard Fain said: “Majesty of the Seas has created wonderful memories for millions of guests, and we expect this record of success to continue as she transitions to Pullmantur.

“The vessel’s transfer is an excellent business opportunity for both Royal Caribbean and Pullmantur. We are fortunate that our mix of brands allows us the flexibility and opportunity to expand in key strategic markets.”

Pullmantur president and chief executive Jorge Vilches added: ”The transfer of Majesty of the Seas will play an important role in Pullmantur’s Latin American growth strategy, and helps us become one of the most widely recognised brands in that market.

“The additional capacity will help us meet the rising demand for Pullmantur’s distinctive Latin-style cruise holidays.”
