Ferguson protests prompt St Louis flight diversions

Some St Louis-bound flights are being diverted to other airports amid reports of gunshots fired into the sky in Ferguson, Missouri.

This comes amid protests against a grand jury’s decision not to indict the white police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black 18-year-old.

The US Federal Aviation Administration said about 10 flights had been rerouted from Lambert-St Louis international airport.

The reason cited was “to provide a safe environment for law enforcement activities,” the Associated Press reported.

The airport said that only inbound flights were affected. The facility remains open.

The FAA restricted flights on 37 square miles of airspace for two weeks after the shooting in August.
