AirAsia X to revive Kuala Lumpur London service

Low cost long haul carrier AirAsia X is looking to revive flights between Kuala Lumpur and London, almost three years after it abandoned the route.

Airline group chief executive Tony Fernandes used Twitter to say that “the reopening of KL London is definitely on the cards”.

He added that he plans to discuss the issue with London mayor Boris Johnson next week.

“Kl london is the most wanted route for airasia x, and we will deliver it I am quite sure,”  Fernandes continued, also adding that AirAsia X is “exploring Hawaii as part of our growth strategy.”

Fernandes used his Twitter feed to announce that he will give away a free tickets on the inaugural flight to and from London in a competition.

He added: “Despite some odd pricing by airlines AirAsia X well on its way to profitability.”

The carrier dropped services to London and Paris in 2012, blaming high jet fuel prices, weakening demand and escalating Air Passenger Duty in the UK.

Air Asia X started serving Gatwick in October 2011.
