Travel 2 supports Just a Drop’s Uganda campaign

A campaign in Uganda which will provide more than 1,000 people with clean, safe water is being supported by Travel 2.

It marks the fourth year that parent company Stella Travel Services has supported the work carried out by water charity Just a Drop.

The project will deliver four new shallow wells, six rainwater harvesting jars and six latrines at the homes of the most vulnerable in the Kayabwe Village in Uganda.

The community is suffering from high numbers of water related diseases such as diarrhoea and dysentery.

The new wells and rainwater harvesting jars will provide the whole community with access to a safe, clean water source.

Just a Drop will deploy a local water and sanitation committee to train the local community on hygiene and sanitation to reduce the threat of disease further and ensure they have the appropriate skills to maintain the new wells.

Travel 2 managing director, Andy Freeth, said: “Because of the severe lack of access to clean water, people’s lives have been lost and are still at risk.

“Everyone at Travel 2 has been greatly touched to learn about the serious safety implications to the local people. We are grateful for the opportunity to sponsor this new project and hope to hear of positive results on completion of the scheme.”

Just A Drop founder and chair, Fiona Jeffery, added: “We are hugely appreciative of Travel 2’s continued support which makes projects like this possible.

“I met the community in Kayabwe on a visit to Uganda earlier this year. I was shocked at just how young the children who were carrying jerry cans of water were – some as young as four.

“The elderly also suffer with walking long distances and having to ask their neighbours to help, or go without. We take water so much for granted so it’s wonderful to be working with the Travel 2 team again, being able to make a difference and changing lives for the better.”
