Royal Caribbean Cruises will be added to the S&P 500 at the end of trading today (Thursday), joining rival Carnival Corporation as the only cruise lines on the benchmark US stock market index.
A company should have a market capitalisation greater than $5 billion to be added to the S&P 500 list.
Royal Caribbean’s market capitalisation was $16.4 billion as of December 1.
The parent of brands including Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises is replacing packaging products maker Bemis on the premium listing
Shares in Royal Caribbean, which carries more than 4 million passengers a year, advanced 3% on the move.
