Monarch Group chief executive Andrew Swaffield (pictured) has been elected unopposed to the Abta board of directors representing principals with an annual turnover of not less than £50 million.
His appointment to the board is with immediate effect and follows the board position vacated by Monarch’s former chairman Hugh Morgan.
Abta chairman Noel Josephides said: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew to the Abta board of directors where his wealth of experience will prove invaluable to the association and our members.
“Andrew is joining the Abta board at a significant time as the industry moves forward towards a new regulatory environment both domestically and in Europe, and as travel businesses become increasingly diverse and international.”
Swaffield has overseen a rescue of the Monarch group with recent new investment.
His travel industry career includes positions at Thomas Cook, British Airways, British Airways Holidays and Avios – formerly Air Miles.
Swaffield joined Monarch Group as managing director of the airline in 2014 and became group chief executive in July.
