Schoolgirl composes Christmas song for Southampton airport promo

A schoolgirl has been chosen to write a Christmas ‘Happy Holidays’ song to accompany a promotional video for Southampton airport.

Abigail Caveney (14), from Upper Shirley High School, started composing last year when she entered the prestigious Britten Young Songwriter competition.

She was one of two overall winners in Aldeburgh Music’s competition to mark the centenary of the birth of British composer Benjamin Britten.

As well as composing, Abigail sings, plays the piano, ukulele and oboe.

Local band Eugenie and the Lamps performed the song, which includes Abigail’s sister Lydia plus friends Ella, Rowan, Ben and James – all of whom attend Barton Peveril Sixth Form College.

Actors from local drama groups volunteered their time to take part in the video which follows passengers having emotional reunions at Christmas time at the airport.

Airport marketing and communications director, Jan Halliday, said: “We are delighted to have a new Christmas song, composed especially for the airport.

“Abigail is an extremely talented young lady and we love the soundtrack to our film.

“It’s great to see different members of our local communities coming together to make our special Christmas video – we hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it.”
