Monarch reports spike in festive mobile bookings

Monarch Airlines saw a spike in mobile bookings over the festive season.

Bookings by tablet and smartphone on Christmas Day were up 32% year on year and 80% on Boxing Day.

The airline saw mobile traffic and use of its mobile app, which now has more than 194,000 downloads, jump on both days.

Overall traffic on Christmas Day and Boxing Day was up 40% from the previous year’s figures.

The winter sun destinations of Sharm el Sheikh, Agadir and Lanzarote were the most popular for bookings.

Monarch also claimed positive demand for its new winter ski routes from Gatwick to Lyon, Birmingham to Turin and Salzburg.

Head of digital and marketing Ian Chambers said: “Mobile conversion rate was significantly up year-on-year on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

“With the combination of the cold weather and customers receiving new tablets and smart phones we have seen a strong spike in online bookings over the festive period.

“With bigger screens, a better mobile booking experience and more confident mobile customers, our mobile conversion rates have improved, resulting in bookings being significantly ahead over Christmas Day and Boxing Day.”
