BRITISH Tourist Authority board member Alan Britten has been appointed chairman of the new English Tourist Council, due to be launched on July 19.
The ETC has been established as a more strategically focused version of the English Tourist Board.
Britten, 61, has been a BTA board member since July 1997. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport received 75 applications for the £36,000-a-year post vacated by David Quarmby, who remains BTA chairman. It has yet to appoint a new chief executive for the ETC. Former ETBchief executive Tim Bartlett stepped down and is now British Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions chief executive.
