Cruise & Maritime Voyages forced to switch departure point

Overrunning maintenance work has forced Cruise & Maritime Voyages to change the departure port for a Caribbean sailing from Bristol to Plymouth.

The ship Azores (pictured) was originally due to arrive in Bristol Avonmouth tomorrow (Saturday) to be prepared to sail on Monday following work in dry dock in Lisbon.

The vessel is now due to depart from Plymouth at a delayed time of 11pm on Monday but will return to Bristol as scheduled at the end of the voyage.

Apologising to passengers, CMV’s chief executive Christian Verhounig said: “Unfortunately the completion of the ship’s annual maintenance works in Lisbon have overrun by 24 hours and so as a precautionary measure we have taken the decision to change the port of departure from Bristol Avonmouth to Plymouth.

”Plymouth is 121 nautical miles of closer proximity to Lisbon compared to Bristol Avonmouth and Plymouth also has the benefit of no tidal restrictions meaning that we can maintain the existing itinerary timings even based on a now-required later sailing time from Plymouth on Monday, January 26.”
