Raging Thunder, the Queensland adventure ground operator, is reporting a massive increase in business from the UK and advising agents to make the most of commission-earning opportunities.
Executive director Fred Ariel said: “We carry around 86,000 people a year and over the last four to five years we have seen an increase of 5,000-6,000 every year with most growth out of the UK market.
“Travel agents are experiencing squeezes on commissions from airlines. But agents can improve their profits by selling adventure packages – the average spend per person is around £1,850.”
The operator, which recently relocated its European sales office to Holland, is to recruit a second member of staff to cope with its growth. It was promoting a number of new tours at ATE.
New excursions include three-day sailing trips around the Whitsundays staying at Airlie Beach from £125 per person.
Other new product includes one or two-day reef kayak tours with optional overnight at Fitzroy island from £40; and the Bottom to Top Sydney-Cairns 27-day tour with 14 different activities costing from £970 including most meals.
