HOTELIERS are giving Italian specialist Citalia extra time to sell room allocations for the millennium because of slow sales.
The specialist, which has launched its winter city-breaks brochure, said hoteliers originally wanted unsold rooms released in July but have extended the deadline to the beginning of October.
Head of sales and marketing Alyson Playford predicted they may further extend the date if demand does not pick up.
Rooms are usually released by operators for local sale four weeks prior to the arrival date.
Playford said other high-profile events have traditionally failed to live up to the hype.
All of Italy’s major cities and regions are featured in the programme which has a 10,000 capacity, marginally up on winter 1998/99. Prices have risen by between 10%-15%. Among the special millennium offers is a three-night Gala package to Sorrento’s Tramontano and a 1900s themed ball.
