Lufthansa pilots to strike on Wednesday

Lufthansa faces a fresh strike by pilots tomorrow (Wednesday).

Short and medium-haul flights operated by Lufthansa and Germanwings will be affected by the action by pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC).

All Lufthansa long-haul operations are scheduled to operate as normal, the airline said.

A list of the affected flights during the strike period are due to be published later today on the airline’s website.

Pilots held a series of strikes from last year over Lufthansa’s plans to change their pension arrangements.

The airline wants to abolish a programme that allows pilots to retire at age 55 and receive up to 60% of their pay until they reach the statutory retirement age of 65.

The union also said that the airline wants to offer younger pilots less attractive working conditions, forcing it to strike.

Strikes cost Lufthansa €232 million last year.
